Jo Etta “Nicky” McLaughlin,
the retired co-owner of Bovard-Anderson Co., remains involved with
the business as a part-time consultant. She and her husband John
owned the company for more than a quarter of a century, and during
that time she built a property management specialty that today is
a premier service in Beaver County.
One of Nicky’s most impressive accomplishments has been expanding
the firm’s property management business, “from Ambridge
to Beaver Falls,” she says. Today, the company serves more
than 700 Beaver County rental units, encompassing single-family homes,
multi-unit apartments, and small- to high-end commercial buildings.
The staff finds tenants for vacant properties, collects rents and
handles maintenance issues.
Another of Nicky’s legacies has been the implementation and
ongoing use of a custom-written, standardized lease. She developed
the lease based on extensive research and adaptation of leading industry
examples to best fit the requirements of Bovard-Anderson’s
customers.
Nicky is a longtime community leader with Beaver Area non-profit
groups. She has served as President of the Beaver Area Education
Foundation; as a Trustee of the Beaver United Methodist Church and
on the board of its Courtney Memorial Library; with the Advisory
Board of the Salvation Army; a tutor for the Adult Literacy Action
of Penn State Beaver; and a member of the Beaver Area Heritage Foundation.
Early in her career, Nicky taught at Beaver High School for three
years. Then, after raising her five children, she joined her husband
in the company in 1973, and obtained her sales and broker’s
licenses. In 1992, she and John transferred the ownership of Bovard-Anderson
to their son Edwards and his wife Jacqueline.
